Alissa Coe
With a deep respect for craft, Alissa Coe endeavours to create objects that capture the elegance and strength of the natural world using minimal form and quality materials.
She is co-founder of coe&waito, a small Toronto based design and production studio focusing on porcelain objects for interiors. In addition to a line of porcelain products, coe&waito has created several sculptural installations in porcelain for local galleries.
In the past year Alissa has produced her first solo commission, a large-scale sculptural installation for the Four Seasons Hotel in Toronto. She is working primarily in porcelain as well as wood and metal. Alissa is honoured to be working with artist Shary Boyle as production assistant on the artwork for Canada’s pavilion in the upcoming 2013 Venice Biennale. Born and raised in rural eastern Ontario Alissa studied Industrial Design at OCAD University and is currently living in Toronto, Canada.
Alissa has designed two table lamps for M+Dc. The one on the right of the process rendering employs Ontario Foundry‘s sand cast aluminum capabilities and the one on the left employs Evergreen Cast Stone‘s cast concrete capabilities. The lamp bodies are built and assembled by Lighting Nelson and Garrett.
