Maïwenn Castellan

Maïwenn Castellan

Maïwenn Castellan is a Toronto-based Industrial Designer with a passion for lighting. Her product range varies from cutlery to soft goods, but all her creations share her unique aesthetic, informed by the places she’s lived and travelled — from Morocco to Tianjian, Brittany to Vancouver.

Her passion for how products are made is only matched by her commitment to the greater impact they will have on the world. Castellan has a diploma of display and design from Langara College in Vancouver and a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Toronto’s OCAD University. She currently has a studio and design consultancy in the vibrant Junction neighbourhood, where she was recently involved in re-purposing an old building as an environmentally conscious and economically accessible workspace for young creatives.

Prior to her design career, she honed her artistic skills as a photo stylist and prop designer in Paris and Vancouver. Castellan’s work has been featured at The Art Gallery of Ontario, the Design Exchange, and the Interior Design Show in Toronto, as well as in Marie Claire Idées and Azure magazines. Her products have been distributed by retailers including Made, William Sonoma, Costco, and Bed Bath and Beyond.

For M+Dc, Maïwenn designed a floor lamp that incorporates the work of 4 M+Dc manufacturers. The stem is made right off the mould Marc at Gull Lake Boats Works uses in building his hand-crafted canoes.

Maïwenn also designed this stunning watering can that incorporates Oliver-Woods Metal Spinning Co. and Lighting Nelson and Garrett. It won a TO DO Juror’s Choice Award presented by Herman Miller.
